Could Scientology Have Saved Anna Nicole?

Oooh, John Travolta! Didn’t you learn anything from the whole Tom Cruise/Brooke Shields depression mess? It’s best to just keep that hole above your dimpled chin shut.

if Anna Nicole had gotten help at Narconon, the drug detox program “inspired” by the writings of L. Ron Hubbard and associated with the Church of Scientology, all would be different today. “It’s so sad,” said Travolta to MSNBC. “We could have helped her with Narconon but didn’t get a chance.”

Scientology saves lives? Tell that to the family of Lisa McPherson, a young woman who died while in the care of Scientologist after a psychotic breakdown:

On December 5, 1995, the Church staffers overseeing her care called David Minkoff, a Scientologist medical doctor who had already prescribed drugs twice for McPherson during her stay without seeing her. On hearing of her medical condition, Minkoff instructed them to bring her to the nearest hospital, two minutes away; they objected, fearing that McPherson would be put under psychiatric care. When they arrived at Minkoff’s hospital 45 minutes north of Clearwater, having passed four other hospitals on the way, McPherson was dead on arrival. According to the coroner’s report, she was underweight and severely dehydrated. She also had several bruises and bedsores, as well as literally hundreds of insect bites on her body, which according to some forensic experts was a result of being left in a [dark] room with a large cockroach population.

Mmmm, if that’s how they roll with taking care of someone, I don’t want to know how they punish them. At least Travolta was trying to help, and it’s sad no one reached out to her in time to save her life.
