Alec Baldwin Funds Soldier’s College Fees

Apparently moved by the story of Private Resha Kane, the Film Actor Guild’s Alec Baldwin has agreed to pay for her college tuition when she returns from Iraq.

I don’t know what her story is but it, according to Baldwin’s rep, reminded him of his daughter, Ireland.

Wait.

His daughter is named Ireland? When did I miss that? 11 years ago? OK. That’s a pretty stupid name. Am I wrong?

Anyway, off topic.

Why is Baldwin doing this? It makes absolutely NO sense at all.

First thing is the military is already putting $37,000 towards her college fees. Already. Paid for. That’s it right? What is Alec left to pay for? Lunches?

The other thing I don’t understand is why someone with as much money as Baldwin decides to help one person with college fees?

Wouldn’t it make more sense to set up a fund for underpriviledged smart kids in poor neighborhoods with crack addict parents or something?

Someone tell me why this is just dumb. Please.
