Dr. Phil has been pretty much getting his ethics handed to him on a platter after his improptu uninvited run in with Britney Spears after she holed up with her youngest son keeping him against the will of the law in what has become knows as Hostage Brituation 2008. Psychiatrist across the board are calling the TV Guru’s visit and gross invasion of privacy that should have been prevented by the medical staff keeping watch over Britney. Dr. Phil has canceled his special that was to star the Spears clan in all their dysfuctional glory:
As was widely reported this weekend, at the request of concerned family members, I visited Britney Spears in the hospital. The details of that visit will, of course, remain private. We had planned to tape a Dr. Phil Now show today, focusing not on the tabloid side of Britney’s latest problems, but instead on the very serious issues surrounding this case.”
Wow. This is a family who values the spotlight over values and concern that they sold their pregnant teenage daughter’s story to a magazine for $1 million dollars and wanted to schedule and intervention with their eldest on national television. As much as I would have liked to have seen Britney throw a chair then handcuff herself to the catering table demanding that she be brought some Pepperidge Farm cookies and a bucket of Vodka Slushy, the complete willingness of the Spears clan to pimp every situation to their monetary advantage is so wrong even Joan Crawford is sitting around in Hell thinking that was pushing ot too far.
